REVIEW [excerpt]: Nothing ‘Small’ about Blink 182

New Jersey emo-punk icons My Chemical Romance opened with an intense, spasm-inducing set that was somewhat snuffed out by a muddy sound mix. Still, “Destroya,” with its fist-thrusting hook, had the throngs chanting along.

Frontman Gerard Way, in black T-shirt and sporting a closely shorn, pink haircut, was the consummate showman — all bombast, passion and energy. He captivated on the heartstring-tugging anthem, “Welcome to the Black Parade.” The old Mansfield shed morphed into a full-scale dance party as Way and company swaggered through the rollicking angst ode “Teenagers” and their hook-laden breakthrough, “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)...”
