REVIEW [excerpt]: HCT 08/31 Vancouver, Canada

"...My Chemical Romance opened up with ‘Na Na Na’, off their new album Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys and then made a detour to their well loved anthem of  ‘I’m Not Okay’. The fire haired frontman Gerard was full of sassy hip gyrations as he baited the fans to a dance competition. They followed with plenty of sing along lyrics, jumping and fist pumping; “Let me see your hands!” they commanded of the fans! As they picked up the pace with ‘Planetary Go’, giant balloons full of confetti came bouncing into the arena. 2011 marks 9 years that the so called ‘EMO’ rockers have been pulling in the crowds and calling them out."

REVIEW [excerpt]: Honda Civic Tour

"...First off, let me just say that this show was an extremely huge honor for me to even be there. Blink 182 and My Chemical Romance have been on my “Must See” list for over 7 years, so nonetheless, I was excited"

"...It wasn’t long before My Chemical Romance hit the stage. They came on to Na Na Na, you know the catchy song on the radio. Anyways, their performance was flawless. They played Im Not Okay (I Promise) after that, and even played Our Lady Of Sorrows from their first record. Their set ranged everywhere from Teenagers, to Helena, Planetary (Go!), Famous Last Words, ect. They put on a great show, and let me tell you, Gerald, man, can that kid sing. He has come a long ways since Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. One thing that really caught my attention was there final song. They didn’t end with a big band, they slowed things down, and ended with Cancer, which was, in my opinion, the best way to end the set."

REVIEW: My post about the meet and greet with mcr: GERARD WAY HIGH-FIVED ME

by barratt-tone

There were about 40 people with meet and greet passes and they had us in a line and were taking in about 6 people at a time to meet MCR. I was the first person in my group, so they told us to go in and BAM. Frank, Mikey, Ray, and Gerard. Just standing there looking 100x more beautiful…and actually a lot smaller than I had thought they’d be, in person.

I walked up to Frank, said “HI!” and he gave me a kinda creepy “Helllllooo” followed by “how are you?” He had one of the strongest handshakes I’ve ever had before. He looked me in the eyes (ugh he has such big, beautiful eyes) and said “so i love your shirt, mass canvas!” (I was wearing the black and white Gerard shirt) I told him “OH! I have something for you” and tried to find the letters and gloves I had for him in my bag, but kept grabbing the wrong thing, and so I apologized for being so nervous, and he said “Oh, don’t worry, it’s fine, take your time!” He loved the gloves & pins I got him. Finally, I remembered I wanted him to write a lyric so I can get it tattooed, and he said “OH YEAH, sure!” so I handed him a piece of paper and a purple sharpie. He said “so, are you gonna get it in purple!?” lol, maybe frank…maybe. I think I thanked him a million times. And he thanked me back.

REVIEW [excerpt]: Last Night: Blink-182 At The Woodlands

"...Before blink, My Chemical Romance and Matt & Kim also put on great sets."

"...MCR, meanwhile, took to the stage in full Killjoy uniforms, blasting the crowd's collaborative eardrum with a mish-mash of old, new and even older material before ending their set with an emotional rendition of "Cancer."

NEWS: musiciansfriend.com's My Chemical Romance - October's cover artist

Hitting It Big—Worldwide

Multi-platinum band My Chemical Romance grace this month's catalog fresh from a back-to-back tour packed with songs from their fourth studio album, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. The New Jersey rockers have soared to the heights of fame in just over a decade. The band's music is heard on stages around the world and across pop culture—from video games to soundtracks and TV shows.
From the start, the band's goal was to make a difference—a fervor born from tragedy. They formed in 2001, only one week after 9/11. Lead singer Gerard Way was commuting to his job as a commercial artist when he witnessed the attacks firsthand. Shock proved to be one potent chemical when he and his bandmates drew on their grief for musical inspiration.
Today, My Chemical Romance remains true to the inspiration behind their performances—from hard rock anthems to award-winning stage theatrics. NEWS: My Chemical Romance planning new side-projects

Frank Iero promises a quick return to the studio though...

My Chemical Romance have said that they may well pursue new side-projects as they come to the end of the touring cycle for their fourth album 'Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys'

Speaking to Kerrang!, guitarist Frank Iero, who fronts his own project Leathermouth already, has said that he believes the other members of the New Jersey rockers could follow a similar path.

Asked about the prospect of the other members of My Chemical Romance pursuing side-projects, Iero said: "I can see the other guys branching off and doing other things. Gerard [Way] has his writing, and he has plans for that, but he wants to direct too. And Ray [Toro] is such an incredible talent. I'd love to see him get the credit he's due. I can see us branching off, but always coming back to this."

The guitarist also indicated that My Chemical Romance would be recording again soon, adding:
"We're being very creative right now. There are some really bright and creative things going on. At every soundcheck, we're coming up with new pieces of music that could turn into something incredible. So we're hoping to get into the studio soon and really harness that."

REVIEW: Leeds Festival Review: My Chemical Romance

After years of adversity, MCR prove they're here to stay with a fantastic headline set.

Many were skeptical about My Chemical Romance's ability to put on a festival headline show, but the doubters were proved wrong by one of the weekend's best sets.

Despite a predictable opening ('Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na)'), the band kept up an admirable level on energy for a show that catered for both casual and diehard fans alike.

The set-list did lean heavily towards MCR's most recent effort (Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys), but their new, admittedly more mature, sound was a perfect fit for this kind of show.

Despite news that the band had been joined on stage by Brian May at Reading, the lack of a guest at Leeds did nothing to harm the atmosphere of the show.

Not to be outdone by Muse, MCR brought a great light show and fantastic production to ensure their status as worthy headliners was not under dispute.

Hits like 'I'm Not Okay (I Promise)', 'Teenagers' and 'Famous Last Words' have become anthems for fans who faithfully sung back every word.

A stand-out moment was a gritty, raw rendition of 'Our Lady of Sorrows'.

When it was first released, no-one would've expected My Chemical Romance to go on to be one of the biggest rock bands in the world, headlining a festival of this size.

Gerard Way, charasmatic and energetic throughout, gave a motivational speech about supporting local, live music, because the unsigned bands of today will be the festival headliners of tomorrow.

It was a great speech, one that highlighted a night that felt like a victory for MCR.

For a band that never tried to be accepted, and have had their share of adversity, it was truly special to see a field full of punters singing back 'Welcome To The Black Parade' at the end of a fabulous and triumphant show.

REVIEW [excerpt]: Blink-182 shows there’s musicianship behind those antics

"...It also wouldn’t feel right if My Chemical Romance didn’t dive headlong into the bombast — which they did. Songs from their albums The Black Parade and their more recent Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys had plenty of opportunities for lead singer Gerard Way to show a theatrical style of performing.

However, Danger Days has also seemed to refocus MCR into more of a rock band and less of a group that’s possibly too highly devoted to its concepts. Danger Days was in itself a concept album, but with songs that were more direct and less about being part of a story.

As a result, songs from that album like “Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)” and “Planetary (Go!)” would never seem out of place at any point in a show, and served in this case as good openers.

The group has undergone a difficult but expedient change recently, as drummer Michael Pedicone was fired from the group for theft. However, his replacement Jarrod Alexander has taken over without any noticeable change — his style fits in well."

REVIEW: [excerpt]: Blink-182 bring new hits to SPAC

"...My Chemical Romance brought a large crowd of young, black hoodie, funky hair sporting teenagers to their set. Although mostly an angsty crowd, they were upbeat and entertained with front man Gerard Way's uncanny ability to fill the stage. His jaunty stage presence and fire-engine red hair was unmatched. During their one hour set, he never managed to take a break, and their performance was nearly identical to their CD. Highlights include their famous hits, "Helena", "Teenagers" and "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)." The crowd went crazy for "Na Na Na" which got everyone up and dancing, the perfect way to welcome the opening act."

REVIEW [excerpt]: Blink-182's rebel yell rocks The Woodlands

"...My Chemical Romance quickly ascended the emo-punk ranks of New Jersey to become alternative radio staples. While both bands sonically differ, the pairing made sense; two bands with roots in their respective scenes achieving much higher aspirations.

My Chemical Romance, whose flare for the theatrics was a saving grace from an average showing, took the stage in Halloween costumes and dove right in with their catchier songs Na Na Na and I’m Not Okay ."

REVIEW [excerpt]: Blink-182, My Chemical Romance in West Palm Beach, FL (9/23)

"...Next up was Gerard Way’s post-hardcore extravaganza. Prior to any music hitting the stage from My Chemical Romance, an Asian woman appeared on screens, repeating phrases again and again, the whole thing mirroring those videos from Lost‘s Dharma Initiative. The band hit the stage soon after. Leaving behind the Sephora merch and Gothic Sgt. Pepper’s fashion of yesteryear, the New Jersey rockers instead came out looking like garage punk heroes, shattering any prior assumptions.

Still in support of last year’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, My Chemical Romance performed a variety of hits off the effort, including set opener (and the irritably titled) “Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)” and “Planetary (Go!)”. Throughout the performance, however, Way appeared beleaguered and out of breath as he stomped back and forth on stage, leaving guitarist Frank Iero to fill in the gaps on hits “I’m Not Ok (I Promise)” and “Helena”. Although the songs sounded sharp enough altogether, the showmanship did lack some finesse, though perhaps Way was just having a rough night."

REVIEW [excerpt]: Last Night: Blink-182 and My Chemical Romance at Gexa Energy Pavilion

"...Earlier in the night, My Chemical Romance similarly pleased. Theatrically performing their smart brand of speedy pop-punk (emphasis on pop), the band featured songs from their most recent Danger Days album, while also touching on previous hits and heavily focusing on their biggest album release to date, The Black Parade. Capable headliners in their own right, the band impressively set the stage for Blink-182 on this bill, seemingly happy to pave the way for those who came before them."

REVIEW: Tour Blogger: Honda Civic Tour Atlanta

by redstreaks

There are few times in my life that I have been to a concert.  I can count on 2 hands the number of live musical acts I have bought tickets to see.  Five of those fingers would be My Chemical Romance shows.  From the first riff of “I’m Not Okay” to the last note of “Vampire Money” and all the discoveries of other songs in between, absolutely no music or lyrics have ever reached me, such as theirs.  It has been said time and time again, but it is as if the lyrics of each song reached right into my soul and exposed my insides.  Whether it’s the emotion poured into every guitar strum, bass pluck or word sang… this band has a hold on people that just won’t let go.

Some fans from back in the day say it’s the antics on stage, but how can that be?  When My Chemical Romance took the stage, as Freddie Mercury once said in a song, “It’s a kind of magic."  And that was nothing further from the truth tonight.  An army of fans they have created.  Regardless the waiting time, regardless the weather, the fans are always there…dressed in the colors that represent their undying devotion to a band whose music means so much to them.
