REVIEW [excerpt]: Blink-182, MCR


"...The 55-minute set by New Jersey quintet My Chemical Romance was good, but hampered by frontman Gerard Way, who meandered around the stage giving an occasional mis-timed fist-pump and looking like the least inspired member of the band.

It's too bad because the band's catalog, including the platinum selling "The Black Parade," contain some of emo-punk's best songwriting.
Way may have lacked the stage presence and strangeness needed to take his band to the next level, but he sounded great, especially on the older – and less complicated – songs like "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" and "Helena."

It's these simpler songs like "Teenagers," which the band dedicated to Kansas City, Mo. band The Architects, that the band should stick to live. My Chemical Romance is good, but held back by risk-free sensibilities"
